Chemical Industry Instrumentation
Chemical processes are demanding: the media are often corrosive, the temperatures and pressures are extreme, and many areas are classified as hazardous. Reliable measurement of flow, level, pressure, and temperature keeps these plants safe and efficient. Instranova supplies corrosion-resistant instruments across all four parameters, with wetted materials and seals matched to aggressive acids, alkalis, and solvents.
Flow
Metering acids, alkalis, solvents, and dosing streams with lined or non-contact meters.
Chemical Flow MeterLined magnetic, Coriolis, clamp-on, or PTFE meters for conductive and non-conductive chemicals.
PTFE Lined RotameterFully fluoropolymer-wetted variable-area meter for local indication of corrosive liquid.
Pressure
Pressure measurement protected from aggressive media.
Diaphragm Seal Pressure TransmittersA fluoropolymer or exotic-alloy diaphragm seal isolates the transmitter from corrosive process fluid.
Ceramic Pressure SensorAn aluminum-oxide ceramic cell contacts the medium directly, with no fill fluid, for corrosive and abrasive service.
Level
Level measurement for corrosive tanks and reactors.
Radar Level Sensor for Corrosive LiquidsA PTFE rod-antenna radar measures acids and alkalis without contact and without a fill fluid.
Capacitance Level TransmitterA PTFE-insulated probe for level in clean, stable chemical media.
Temperature
Temperature measurement shielded from the process.
RTD Temperature SensorPt100 accuracy for chemical reactors and lines, installed in a protective thermowell.
ThermowellShields the temperature sensor from corrosive, high-pressure, or fast-moving chemical media.
Materials and safety
For most chemical service the wetted parts are 316L stainless steel; aggressive media call for Hastelloy, titanium, tantalum, or PTFE and PFA linings. Diaphragm seals add a protective barrier on pressure instruments, and thermowells shield temperature sensors. Where the area is classified, intrinsically safe (Ex ia) or flameproof (Ex d) versions are available. Confirm the certification and wetted material for your medium at the time of order.
Application examples
Measuring instruments appear throughout a chemical plant:
- Reactors and separators: pressure and temperature
- Storage and transfer tanks: level and pressure
- Dosing and blending skids: flow, often mass flow for ratio control
- Scrubbers and columns: pressure and flow
- Heat exchangers and cooling loops: temperature and flow
