WTQ2050A Non-Contact Torque Sensor (5-500 Nm)
A micro torque sensor measures very small rotational torque, from 0.1 N·m up to about 10 N·m, on a turning shaft. A strain-gauge bridge on a stainless-steel shaft section reads the twist, and the signal is taken off through brushes. It suits micro-motors, viscometers and small gear or actuator tests where a full-size rotary sensor is too coarse.
- Model: WTQ2050A
- Range: 5 N·m to 500 N·m
- Type: non-contact rotary (dynamic)
- Max speed: 8,000 rpm
- Accuracy: ±0.1 to ±0.3% FS
- Output: 10 ±5 kHz, 4-20 mA, ±5/±10 VDC, RS485/232
Overview
The WTQ2050A is a non-contact rotary torque sensor for mid-range dynamic torque from 5 to 500 N·m. It reads torque on a turning shaft up to 8,000 rpm with no slip rings or brushes, so there is nothing to wear during continuous running.
It is the higher-range member of the WTQ2050 non-contact line. For small torque from 0.1 to 5 N·m, see the compact dynamic torque sensor; for the full non-contact range and options, see the rotary torque sensor and the non-contact torque sensor.
Features
What sets this micro torque sensor apart:
Non-contact
No slip rings or brushes, so nothing wears during continuous running.
5 to 500 N·m
Mid-range dynamic torque for drives, motors and test rigs.
8,000 rpm
Reads torque on a fast-turning shaft.
Torque, speed and power
An optional OLED panel shows torque, speed and power; a speed output is available.
Many outputs
10 ±5 kHz frequency, plus 4-20 mA, ±5/±10 VDC and RS485/232.
Overload protected
Safe to 150% and ultimate to 200% of full scale.
Working principle
A metal-foil bridge on the shaft strains with torque. Instead of slip rings, the bridge signal crosses to the stationary body without contact, so there is nothing to wear and the shaft can turn fast. Electronics inside turn the bridge signal into a frequency of 10 ±5 kHz and, where needed, 4-20 mA, ±5 or ±10 VDC, or an RS485/232 reading. With the speed option the same unit reports rpm, and the OLED panel can show torque, speed and power together.

Applications
- Motor and gearbox test rigs, 5 to 500 N·m
- Pump, fan and drive efficiency testing
- Continuous torque monitoring on rotating shafts up to 8,000 rpm
- Torque, speed and power logged together through one unit
- Production end-of-line torque checks
Challenge: A drive test bench needed continuous torque and speed on a shaft turning several thousand rpm, in a mid range that the compact sensor could not cover.
Solution: A non-contact WTQ2050A on the shaft line, reading torque to 500 N·m with the speed output enabled, feeding torque and rpm to the bench logger.
Result: With no slip rings to wear, the bench ran long test cycles without sensor maintenance, and power came straight from torque and speed in one unit.

FAQ
What is the WTQ2050A torque range?
From 5 to 500 N·m, the higher-range member of the WTQ2050 non-contact line. For 0.1 to 5 N·m use the compact WTQ2050.
Is it contact or non-contact?
Non-contact. There are no slip rings or brushes, so nothing wears and the shaft can turn up to 8,000 rpm during continuous running.
What outputs does it have?
A 10 ±5 kHz frequency output, plus 4-20 mA, ±5 VDC, ±10 VDC and RS485/232. A speed output and an OLED panel for torque, speed and power are optional.
What speed can it run at?
Up to 8,000 rpm.
Can it report power?
Yes. With the speed option it reports rpm, and the OLED panel shows torque, speed and power together.
