A rotary torque sensor measures torque on a turning shaft and runs in line between a drive and its load. This non-contact series transfers signal and power without slip rings or brushes, so it has no wearing parts, runs at high speed, and outputs torque, speed and power together.

Overview

The WTQ-1060 is a dynamic torque sensor with a built-in speed output, for rotating torque from 0.2 to 5,000 N·m. It reads torque on a turning shaft and reports rotational speed at the same time, so one unit gives torque, speed and the power that follows from them.

Working principle

Torque passes through the keyed shaft and strains a metal-foil bridge, which gives a 1.5 mV/V signal in proportion to torque. A separate pickup counts shaft rotation, so the unit reports rotational speed alongside torque. With both, the readout can show mechanical power directly. An amplifier can convert the torque signal to a current or voltage output, and the speed comes out as a pulse or analog value.

Application example
